YUP, ME (on October 15th) IN THE MINNESOTA BOOK OF SKILLS

The book I worked on for my internship at the Minnesota Historical Society Press is out SOON! I just got my copies, which look great:

MY NAME IS IN IT:

Now my resume is legit, or something.

DONE

Here’s a journal I made for my friend Bob. The cover is a screen printed version of this that I’m gonna scan later. This is my first real-ass hard cover book, I think it’s preeeeetty good. I

Very simple repeating pattern that I’m gonna use for the endpapers for that book I’m making. I’ve never made a real hardcover book before so some things I’m just winging…

It’s in black and white because I’m gonna screen print it.

Makin a book for Bob in exchange for some pottery. It’s gonna have a proper cover and everything!

Also this thing I threw together really really fast because it sounded like a really good idea and I thought it would be easy. Turns out, I was right.

I am now done with my internship at the Minnesota Historical Society Press, here’s every illustration that’s going to be in the Minnesota Book of Skills, which comes out this fall. I had a really good time researching and working on these and I;m looking forward to actually being published in a real live book, with pages.

Here’s a little something from my internship. I drew leaves from trees of Minnesota.

First thing I did in Illustrated Notebook.

It’s fun! We get to deface books! This is the cinema of Dirk Bogarde, a British actor I’ve never head of.

The assignment is “afterlife” so I’m inventing a sort of cult pantheon and imagining what their idea of the afterlife would be like. These are the gods, Father, Uncle, Captain and Presidente.

I’ve been doing it all with colored pencil on acrylic, which is workin out pretty well.

I made another book! With Rives Bfk. Look like a blank and mild again.

Looooooook at the book I made yesterday. It’s the fanciest I’ve ever made. It’s bigger than usual because I never use small books. It’s Arches 140 lb watercolor paper inside and that stuff I usually use for the cover in “tobacco.” (I like my books to look like a Black and Mild.)
I used book glue and some acrylic medium mixed with “pearl white” pigment so there are some shiny parts inside and on the cover. The “book cloth” and “endpaper” are just some pulp paintings I had from Intro to Print Paper Book.
